Schedule cleanup after the contractor or owner has separated tools and new materials from the removal pile. A mixed active work zone creates avoidable mistakes.

Walk the boundary first

Mark the shed footprint, staging area, and path to the truck. Confirm whether the slab, blocks, anchors, or landscape edging remain.

Separate old and new materials

Keep unused new roofing, siding, fasteners, and trim away from demolition debris. Packaging can go in the removal area only when it is part of the agreed load.

Account for small sharp pieces

Identify nails, screws, broken plastic, and metal offcuts. A magnet sweep may help with ferrous fasteners, but it does not replace a visual check.

Define the finish

“Clean” can mean debris loaded, small pieces collected, or the footprint broom-swept. Put the expected finish in writing before the job begins.
